Ok, so you've got your new business idea, now what?

My process of how to go from having a business idea to actually launching it

Ideas are exciting. The shear emotion of imagining what your business idea actually can grow into is so pure and so exhilarating. But then, it wears off. Usually because you think about downsides, how much time it will take or how much it will cost. But, if you still think it’s a good idea, then let’s jump into the arena baby.

Assuming you have a good outline of your idea, what it is, who will buy and where you can find them, then now it’s time to get to work. The first thing is generally picking a name and a domain. To me, it’s not that important to begin with because these things change. So as long as you are fine with a name and find a domain that is suitable (preferrably a .com domain), then we are ready.

For most projects, setting up for SEO is the first thing I do. Unless this is something that will be much more B2B sales focussed. Either way, it is always better to have the basics in place.

Once I have bought a domain, the first thing I do is launch it a simple landing with H1 and H2 and a newsletter/waitlist button. This is for 2 reasons. 1, you want google to understand what your site is about. and 2, if someone actually makes it to your webpage, then they have an option to give you their email if they are interested. Nothing fancy, just enough to get SEO rolling.

Then, I set up a blog. This is definitely for SEO purposes and you want to start as early as possible to create authority on the topic you are selling. Most webpage builders have a blog/cms integrated, so take advantage of that. I tend to wait a couple of days before I launch a lot of blog posts using AI automation. The first blog post is generally one that explains in detail what your business is and what you are selling. Then, I use tools such as tryjournalist.com to create and automate blog writing and posting. For $99USD they can create something like 100 blog posts a month and automatically upload them to your site. This helps because it starts showing google you are an authority on the topic. And it will help you later on. Remember, SEO is a long-term strategy, but also something you should start with right away. Then, I just let that sit for about two weeks.

In the meantime, I start finding out how I can get some backlinks to my site. Remember, backlinks will help make your site more authoritative for google, and it will help you rank faster for keywords. You can do this the hard way or the easy way. The hard way is to manually reach out to sites in your niche and ask them to link back to your blog posts if they see value in them. The easy way is to just buy some links. This will probably cost you around $200usd to get started. But be sure that you buy trustworthy links and that they are in your niche. Journalist AI have a neat feature where you can buy some packages from them and they’ll help you with backlinks. This will help getting your DA (domain authority) to increase, which in turn, will help your keywords rank higher.

Now that we’ve got that checked off, it’s time to actually start selling your product. Hopefully it’s not super complicated to build out and you can do this quickly. You can also start populating your website to make it appealing for the traffic you are about to start generating. There are a bunch of ways to build out your landing page to make it convert more, but julian.com has probably the best template for that. Go check it out.

Now, with SEO starting to work for you, a fresh landing, and a working product, you have launched. Congrats. Unfortunately, now the hard work is about to begin… Getting and keeping paying customers… Good luck with that.

Until next time,
